It's Simple, but It's Not Easy

I am studying with a couple of mentors to figure out how to bring my work to a larger audience and, of course, get paid well for what I do.  Many of the concepts that I'm learning are very simple.  So simple, in fact, that it's a wonder everyone just doesn't do it.  But that's confusing simple with easy.  It's not easy at all to think like an entrepreneur when you've been an employee your whole life.  It's not easy to send out that press release or write that e-book when you're not 100% confident that anyone wants to hear your message.  And it's doubly difficult if you're still struggling to believe the message yourself.

Talking about entrepreneurship as a way to achieving one's ideal life gets a lot of skepticism.  Almost everyone quotes statistics about how often small businesses fail, how the economy is making it hard even for established businesses, and how if you have a job you should feel lucky and stop all that nonsense about fulfillment, making a difference, and loving your life.  Lots of people are unwilling or unable to hear the message.  It's hard to maintain a belief in the message when it's dismissed as so much fluff.

But I do believe it.  I know people who have done it, and I'm in the process of doing it myself.  I'm learning everything I can and putting together as many resources as I can find so that I can help others to do it too.  But how-to is just the beginning.  It's the mindset that keeps us from attaining our dreams, our inner voice that tells us that's fine for other people, but maybe it's not meant for us.  This is what's known as "conflicting intentions."  We say we want something, but our subconscious thoughts and our actions lead us away from it, not toward it.  It seems simple to take one step daily toward creating work that you love.  But it's not easy.  We have to overcome years, in many cases decades, of conditioning.  It's really a completely different reality, and it's hard to just step into it.  That's why we need coaches.  I can't tell you how many times I've felt like throwing in the towel, felt like the Universe is conspiring against me rather than providing all that I need.  Having someone in your corner who will encourage you, let you talk through your fears and frustrations without judgment, and believe in you and your dream as much as, sometimes more than, you do is critical to breaking through those barriers.

Shifting your perspective on a regular basis can make a huge difference.  It's simple, but it sure isn't easy!
